The U.S. Census Bureau is adapting or delaying some of our operations to protect the health and safety of our staff and the public and make sure we get the same population counted another way.

The 2020 Census is underway and more households across America are responding every day. Online, phone and mailed self-responses will continue throughout the data collection process. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the U.S. Census Bureau is adjusting 2020 Census operations in order to:

• Protect the health and safety of the American public and Census Bureau employees.

• Implement guidance from Federal, State, and local authorities regarding COVID-19.

• Ensure a complete and accurate count of all communities.

Under the adjusted 2020 Census operational plan, field activities would resume after June 1, 2020, as Area Census Offices begin returning to full staff capacity. In-person activities, including enumeration, office work, and processing activities, will incorporate the most current guidance from authorities to ensure the health and safety of staff and the public.

Note: Submit interview requests to me at douglas.e.loveday@2020census. gov. The U.S. Census Bureau is providing only Regional spokespeople (no local spokespeople) for Self-Response and Census 101-related interview requests. For COVID-19 or operational timeline-related interviews, the U.S. Census Bureau’s Public Information Office is approving and handling all of those interviews. For these, please make your request with me, and I’ll facilitate the request with PIO.

Because PIO is handling all COVID-19 related requests from around the country, be prepared to schedule out several days to secure an interview time and spokesperson.

Current Self-Response Rates for Area Counties –

As of Monday, April 13th, 48.6 percent (more than 71,000,000) of the nation’s households have responded to the Census either online or by phone, moving responses up the needle.

Texas had the highest daily total self-response rate Sunday, April 12th (0.4%) for all southern states.

Guadalupe County is among the top in households counted in the Central Texas area.

Texas 44.2%

Caldwell County 37.0%

Gillespie County 41.0%

Gonzales County 32.0%

Guadalupe County 50.7%

Lampasas County 46.2%

Llano County 31.2%

Mason County 7.5%

Menard County 5.3%

Milam County 33.6% San Saba County 30.4%

San Saba County 30.4%

Residents can still respond online or by phone. For households that did not respond as of April 8th, they should have received a paper questionnaire in the mail. It has never been easier to respond on your own—all without having to meet a census taker.

Keeping up with the Census –

Curious about how many people in the nation and all communities are responding to the 2020 Census? Each day the U.S. Census road mapper will update to show where the nation is in its self-response rates. To view these updates, you visit - https://2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html.

Thanks for your patience during this time, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
