April 15, 1920

The biggest deal that has been consummated in this section was closed here this week when Will Gray sold his Deep Creek ranch and 1250 head of cattle to P. C. Sloan. There are something over two thousand cattle on the ranch and Mr. Sloan tops out 1250 head. The total amount of the deal is over a quarter million dollars.

At the new Cedar Yards one block north of the Public Square, we have erected a Stover Crusher for grinding Corn in shuck, Kaffir and Milo heads. Have handy arrangements for unloading and sacking and the charges are reasonable. We will also keep on hand for sale, grain, hay and feed of all kinds. Sell us your timber and buy your feed from us, and save yourself some money. C. E. DEESE, Mgr.

The city dads have not passed a parking ordinance. Last Saturday evening an auto on Wallace street backed up over a foot high curbing and mashed in a door. If the car had been a few feet either way, costly plate glass windows would have been smashed. Lets have a parking ordinance before some one is killed or crippled.

INFORMATION WANTED: Taken from the front gallery of the cottage next door west from the residence of R. C. Turner on Commerce Street between 7:15 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3rd, a large bundle of laundry tied up in a sheet. A suitable reward will be paid for information leading to the apprehension of the person or persons who took this property.–H. C. Coryell.

An interesting game of baseball was played between Pecan Grove and Fair View, resulting in a score of 19 to 6 in favor of Pecan Grove. The features of the game were a home run by Claxton of Pecan Grove bringing in two more runners, and the three bagger by Emmet Terry with two men on bases.

This is the most important measure which has ever come before you. This is more important than any prohibition or equal suffrage question. “Save Your Schools.” Do not forget that if you do not save them–your children are in danger of growing up and embracing Bolshevism. As a Voter of this great state, give these children a chance. It is their birthright–you and you alone can save this by your vote.

April 17, 1980

San Saba’s Sara Jackson scored a double win at the girls' district 10-A track meet held Friday at Brownwood's Cen-Tex Stadium. Miss Jackson’s efforts enabled her to advance to Regional competition to be held this Friday and Saturday at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. 96'9" was here best discus throw of the year and beat the second place effort of 84'2" by eleven feet seven inches. Jackson’s 29'1½" shot put toss, though not among her best throws of the year, was good enough to win the district by 1½".

March was a busy month for San Saba Police Department officers as 40 tickets were issued with fines totaling $1,219.50. Speeders topped the list of violations with 14 persons cited, while 10 tickets for not drivers license and six for exhibition of acceleration were issued. Other tickets were given for following too close, disorderly conduct, expired drivers license, drunk, failure to appear, attempted theft of gasoline, dog at large, minor in possession, fleeing a police officer and improper operation of a motor vehicle.

Ruben Almaguer took first place in the 7,000-pound super stock class at Rolling Plains Spring Championship Tractor Pull held in Sweetwater.

The University of Texas named 1,147 students to the 1979 fall semester honor roll in the College of Business Administration. Included in the list were Barry and Diane Senterfitt, children of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Senterfitt.

Throw out the blind holes and ringer was the name of the game when the San Saba Ladies Golf Association met to play last Thursday. The following ladies participated: Wallace Parks, Dean Kirk, Jymmy Linzey, Dorothy Sterner, Bess Patterson, Trouba Derrick, Frances Hill and Annie Mae McCarty. Wallace Parks was first; Bess Patterson, second; and Dean Kirk and Dorothy Sterner tied for third place.
