Shown are members of San Saba Fire Rescue in the boat (while other members watch cautiously) heading down Cherokee Creek for a possible rescue of occupants of an overturned jeep on CR 436 at Cherokee Creek crossing. Apparently, two young males attempted to cross when their jeep was swept away and a call came out for rescue just when the SSVFD firefighters were putting away their gear from the Lowe’s Market fire, according to Captain Jack Blossman. Captain Blossman stated when he and his team member arrived in the boat for rescue, one young male was sitting on top of the vehicle. The Captain related although the water was very swift and dangerous, the other male was able to swim to the other side of the bank safely. After the rescue of the stranded victim, Captain Blossman stated it took the help of additional San Saba Fire Rescue members and Lampasas Fire Rescue members to return the rescue boat to safety due to the swift waters. Captain Blossman also wanted to thank San Saba’s Game Warden - Mason Murr - for his assistance during the rescue.
