Not a Beer Barrel Polka
Hello my San Saba darlings! Well it seems our world is in quite a state of trouble and turmoil of late. I will admit when I first heard someone mention the corona virus I thought they were talking about the beer I had seen in commercials and I thought to myself...what is all the fuss, just stop drinking it! Who needs a beer belly anyhow? Then of course as time went on I realized the virus was not a bad affliction but a horrible infection! My mistake!
Mom has become a hermit, no, not a crab, the human kind. She can’t take a chance on being exposed to any kind of virus. If she even gets near someone who has a cold it nearly turns into pneumonia and she ends up on antibiotics so a bad virus would probably kill her! I can’t have that happen... she cooks my meals, is my protection when dad chases me to put my bark collar on and my nap buddy during the day. I would be totally lost without her! I kind of like having her completely house bound...it is like she is my prisoner and the house is her dachshundj ail; yeah, the tables are turned for once!
Dad has been creating the most incredible walking sticks! I just marvel at my parentals artistic abilities. Dad carves tree limbs into lovely shapes and mom paints shapes onto blank canvases and me, I color the world with crazy! The other night I stole one of dad’s shoes and a game of chase commenced. I would run to my bed, do a fake lie down, he would think he had me cornered, I would make a side run and go behind the couch, run out the other way, bark at him and run past! I was dachshund poetry in motion! Of course then he got the Chez Whiz and my beautiful dance was done and dusted!
This is mom’s birthday week. She will be pretty old. Well I do not really know if that is actually accurate because the truth is mom’s face looks as white as paper, she has dark circles under her eyes, her hair looks like a disheveled birds nest and she seldom wears makeup anymore...not very pretty! Yeah, let’s just say she is old. Now don’t get me wrong, I love mom more than anything in the world and she is beautiful to me but it is her heart I see and that is what matters.
All this trouble with the beer virus has made me think about how important each of you are to me. I hope with all my heart you take extra good care of yourself. Treat yourself with kindness and while you shouldn’t be frightened to live, nor should you be foolish or frivolous with your health or with the health of those you love. We all should be cognizant and respectful of each other. Our Mandy McCoury came by to see us but because she lives in Dallas she decided to speak to mom through the door as not to expose her to possible danger. It made mom so sad because she so wanted to give her a hug! I love you so much my San Saba sweethearts, I want you well, happy, safe and to always...thank you for being!
