The Rotary Club met with Dora Miller presiding on September 17th. Members present were Jacqueline Carlson, Jody Fauley, Buck Gilcrease, Tom and Beth Griess, Pat Johnson, Jake Lackey, Dora Miller, Aleck Newby, and Paula Wood.
Student of the month recipient was Enrique Mendoza; he was presented to the club by Coach Andreas Aguirre.
Visitors included Margaret Hensley, Aaron Johnson, Enrique Mendoza, Coach Andreas Aguirre, and Monica Shahan.
Guest speakers Margaret Henslee and Aaron Johnson presented an update on the San Saba Youth Sports Association and plans for the development of its youth sports complex. The association has partnered with the City of San Saba through a 99-year lease.
Phase 1 of the project is estimated at $1,709,912 and includes the field plan, complex development, engineering, and survey work. Funding for this phase has been supported through donations.
Phase 2, estimated at $1,174,415, will focus on field build-out, including grass, irrigation, and fencing.
Phase 3 will address additional facilities and amenities, including concessions, restrooms, lighting, and scoreboards. Grant funding will be necessary to help complete Phases 2 and 3, and the association currently has verbal commitments for additional donations.
Buck Gilcrease and Jody Fauley also discussed the school district’s current 4B classification and the need for voting regarding the 4A district election.
A proposed Rotary donation to the San Saba Youth Sports Association was tabled until the club’s next meeting on October 1.
