The San Saba Garden Club met Tuesday, September 1, for the first meeting of the new year in their temporary gathering space, the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, such a blessing to the group during these times. The 20 members present and three guests (Catherine Shafer, Teresa Sanderson, and Alice Hermann) got to hear the great news that substantial work has begun to restore the historic clubhouse in Mill Pond Park! Members and anyone who would like to help will be working on the flower beds, grounds, and area there next month, at 10 a.m., the morning of October 6th, with a picnic lunch and business meeting to follow.
Visiting with new and old friends along with indulging in tasty and lovely treats of creamy olive, spiced sour cream, and hummus spread, along with breads, crackers, almond cookies, and pound cake were enjoyed by attendees before Cindy Sloan, co-president, called the meeting to order. Marjean Alexander, co-president, offered a prayer and welcomed newest member, Jamie Shelton. As they were distributed, ladies began perusing the new yearbook, considering the exciting plans for the club year ahead. Committees were noted and met briefly making plans for the future.
Bonus fun for the day was designing and making sparkling beaded pot plant stakes to be used in the décor for our anticipated celebration day later in the club year. Committee reports were given, many who were busy during the summer months. At about 4:15 p.m., the meeting adjourned.
