The Richland Springs Report

The Richland Springs students started school on Thursday. I like that entry method. It gives teachers, students, and administration time to get all the paperwork out of the way, get students settled into their daily routine, and everyone is prepared to get down to the work of the year on Tuesday.

Meet the Coyotes Night was a complete success. There was strong parent and fan support in full view. This year's cheerleaders looked sharp and coordinated. I've been attending school games since 1972, and our cheerleaders have been multi-sport athletes every year. Most of the girls this year are on the volleyball team. They practice cheering and volleyball each day. Congratulations to Coach Jacey James, Coach Starr-Locker, and Coach Williams for their excellent team preparation.

Our boys also play multiple sports throughout the school year. That's an advantage and detriment at the same time. We need people for multiple sports, but our little school has limited student availability. Coach McIntyre, Coach James, and Coach Rosales on getting our football athletes ready for another tough season.

Richland Springs will face one of its most challenging predistrict schedules in recent years, with contests against Lometa, Gustine, Leakey, May, Houston Emery-Weiner, and Whitharral, before opening district play at top-ranked Cherokee on Oct. ober 9. Richland Springs is now in District 8-A Division II. Good luck, Coyotes. Always aiming for our number ten win. Schedules for the boys, football, and girls' volleyball, are posted on the school page.

We are waiting for news regarding the Mark Locker funeral. Our prayers are with the family. The family plans to have the proceedings at the First Baptist Church. Details will be posted on the First Baptist Facebook page later this week, or on the funeral services page.

Kids' Church will not resume meetings until mid-September due to scheduling issues. There is plenty of excitement to get the kids back. Mrs. Perry has a super new curriculum ready to present to our students. Watch for details. Volunteers are welcome to come and assist.

The next RSPS Community luncheon will be on September 13th. We look forward to seeing the friendly faces of our community friends and to the delicious dishes they will bring for the noon meal. All proceeds go towards restoring the old bank building.

Don't forget to put the Sand Burr Boogie on your calendar. September 26th, at the Rodeo arena. It's an entertaining evening for parents and kids. Come and see for yourself. Paige Moats and the Beautification committee host the annual event. Entrance is by donation only.

Donna Hill, Bernice Adams, Kristi Norris, and Miss Bea, are among several people who are facing health issues. Many more in our community need our prayers and support.

Please pray for our country, the wars around the world, and unity in our government. No matter who you vote for, they represent you and the other people who may not have voted for them. We are united in our love for this magnificent country and its unique form of government. Support her, love her, and respect her laws. God bless America. Most of all, God bless our precious troops and their families.
