For more than 15 years, Fredericksburg Theater Company has welcomed the staff and kids of Cherokee Home for Children to experience the magic of live theater, creating a much-anticipated tradition filled with laughter, music and memories.
This year, we were among five organizations invited to attend a special production of Alice in Wonderland Jr. The 2026 production was directed by Heather Cunningham, with Alicia Music serving as music director.
The special event was made possible through the generosity of the Peter and Debbie Hope Fund, which sponsors all of the summer children's programs at Fredericksburg Theater Company. The fund's support helps make opportunities like this possible for children throughout the community.
After the performance, the young actors lined the stage for a special question-and-answer time with the audience. Director of Productions, Courtney Le-Fan, guided the young performers as they answered questions and shared more about their experience being part of Alice in Wonderland Jr. The children also had the opportunity to have their pictures taken with members of the cast, giving them a chance to meet the performers and make the afternoon even more memorable.
The Fredericksburg theater Executive Director, Jeryl Hoover, along with the board members and volunteers grilled and served up a delicious hamburger lunch for all attendees. The food was provided through funds raised by selling snacks during intermission at shows throughout the theater season.
Brittni Jackson, Director of Operations at Fredericksburg Theater Company, said this year’s event drew the largest crowd yet. The theater enjoys providing children with the opportunity to experience the wonders of theater and believes in creating meaningful experiences that introduce young people to the performing arts.
