Texas owes them a real debt.
Our Gulf Coast stretches 367 miles, home to some of the busiest ports and richest natural resources in the country.
Keeping it safe takes constant vigilance. The Coast Guard is out there every day, in every kind of weather for our fishermen, our sailors, our rig workers, and the families who call our coast home.
I grew up on the Texas coast myself, so this is personal to me.
As Land Commissioner, I’m entrusted with protecting this coastline, and I take that seriously, every single day.
And I’ve seen the Coast Guard’s work up close.
Earlier this year, a shrimp boat ran aground on Crystal Beach. The Coast Guard worked alongside our General Land Office, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, and local emergency management to get it handled safely.
I'm proud to work alongside them to protect our Texas coast.
To every man and woman who serves in the Coast Guard: thank you.
