The children and staff of Cherokee Home recently experienced a day we will never forget during a special visit to The Preserve in Fredericksburg, thanks to the generosity of Friends of the Preserve.
The hands-on educational experience introduced our group to three remarkable Asian elephants! Every child and staff member had the opportunity to meet Becky, Rosie, and Kitty up close and take memorable photos with each of the elephants.
One of the day's highlights was participating in the elephants' bath time, where everyone had a chance to give them a scrub. The group also learned about the importance of proper foot care for elephants, even getting the rare opportunity to touch and feel the bottoms of their massive feet while learning how trainers monitor their health.
Throughout the visit, the children discovered more about elephant behavior and the positive reinforcement techniques used in their training. The educational experience was balanced with fun and laughter as we watched Becky, Rosie, and Kitty show off their talents. The elephants delighted us all by hula hooping, playing soccer, painting colorful pictures, and demonstrating the intelligence and playful personalities that make them so extraordinary.
The outing was filled with smiles, laughter, and learning, creating lasting memories for everyone who attended. Cherokee Home is deeply grateful to Friends of the Preserve for making this unique experience possible. It was a meaningful opportunity for our children to experience firsthand the importance of caring for the animals God has entrusted to us and to appreciate the dedicated caregivers who devote their lives to their well-being.
For our Cherokee Home family, meeting Becky, Rosie, and Kitty was far more than a field trip. It was an inspiring journey that strengthened our appreciation for God's remarkable creation and left each of us with memories that will be treasured for years to come.
