Cherokee ISD News

The busyness of the end of the year is upon us here at Cherokee ISD! We are still in the thick of testing season with 6-8 math STAAR tests and Algebra I EOCs this week and secondary finals beginning on the 12th.

Special end of the year events are also coming up with the Senior Ice Cream social on Wednesday, April 19th, at 6 p.m., hosted by the Baptist church and senior night at the Church of Christ on Sunday at 6 p.m. The Masonic Lodge banquet will be held on May 4th, athletic banquet on May 7th, Ag banquet on May 12th, and the Rotary Banquet on May 21st. Please note that the Rotary Banquet is after our last day of school!

The regional track meet will be this weekend in Seguin, and we are excited to have several of our athletes competing there. Good luck to our tracksters!

Our Science Fair will be on May 11th from 2:30-3:30 p.m., and we invite the community to attend. Our students have created some really interesting projects!

On April 13, 2006, National Guard Recruiter, Staff Sergeant Christian Van Buren, provided a presentation to Cherokee High School 11th and 12th graders about the National Guard Military Branch of Service and the commitments and benefits that are part of serving. While on campus, there was a Meal Time Muster in which both Junior High and High Schools students could learn more about the National Guard, pick up National Guard swag and interact with SSgt Van Buren. Part of the interaction was an opportunity for students to 'Shoot for 3' or complete a pushup challenge to earn a National Guard Cap. Through this lunchtime interaction, students who chose to participate in either event, learned to both challenge what they thought they could do in order to do more and learned not to give up on themselves in meeting that challenge.

Keep your eyes on your calendar over these next few weeks as there are many activities going on. Have a great week!
