The San Saba ISD band program is celebrating an incredible year of musical excellence, as students across multiple grade levels have achieved the highest honors at recent UIL Concert & Sightreading evaluations.
The San Saba Golden Armadillo Band traveled to Lago Vista in March, where they delivered outstanding performances and earned Division 1 ratings—the highest possible—in both Concert and Sightreading. Combined with their Division 1 rating in Marching this past fall, the band secured the prestigious Sweepstakes trophy, recognizing superior performance across all UIL band events.
Not to be outdone, the San Saba Middle School 7th Grade Band also made history at their Concert & Sightreading Contest in Burnet. The ensemble received Division 1 ratings in both categories, earning a Sweepstakes trophy of their own. This marks the first time since 2014 that a San Saba Middle School band has achieved this distinction.
These accomplishments represent a milestone for the entire district. For the first time since 2014, San Saba ISD has earned an overall Sweepstakes band program designation, with students in grades 7–12 achieving top ratings across the board.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work that both bands have put in while preparing for these UIL Evaluations.
The success of the band program is also credited to the continued support from parents, teachers, and district adminis-tration, whose encouragement plays a vital role in student achievement.
Community members will have the opportunity to hear these award-winning musicians perform at the upcoming Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 12th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Armadillo Arena. The concert will feature performances from the high school and middle school bands, as well as the 5th and 6th grade beginner groups—showcasing the strength and future of the San Saba band program.
