On Friday, April 10th, six Cherokee High School students participated in a Texas High School Welding Series (TXHSWS) event hosted by TSTC Brownwood Welding Department. Participating in the event from Cherokee were Kolton Bench, Preston Hanley, Parker Hanley, Sebastian Mota, Robert Sawyer and Weston Woolsey. Students had the opportunity to challenge the Industry Based Certificate Level 1 2F AWS D9.1 SMAW test. In addition, students were given the chance to experience underwater welding for the first time. Robert Sawyer's weld passed the test earning him the IBC in SMAW and qualified him for the TXHSWS State Competition that will be held in Abilene on May 7th and 8th. Currently, Cherokee HS has four students successfully participating in the TSTC Dual Credit Welding program. Credits to Bo Morris for encouraging these students to participate in the competition and mentoring them at the event.
We also invite our parents and community members to come view our Science Fair on May 11th from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Our elementary students have been working diligently on their projects.
Have a great week!
