“Go Blue” in Support of Local Children
April marks Child Abuse Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about child abuse prevention and recognizing the critical role communities play in protecting children. CASA for the Highland Lakes is calling on residents across Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba Counties to stand with vulnerable children by participating in awareness efforts throughout the month — including Go Blue Day.
Child Abuse Awareness Month serves as a reminder that every child deserves a safe, stable, and nurturing home. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for the Highland Lakes trains and supports community volunteers who advocate for children in foster care who have experienced abuse or neglect. These trained volunteers work closely with judges, attorneys, caseworkers, and caregivers to ensure each child’s best interests are represented in court and beyond.
“Every child we serve has experienced trauma that no child should ever have to endure,” said Brittany Grubbs, Executive Director of CASA for the Highland Lakes. “Our volunteers are powerful voices for children who often feel unheard. By advocating for their safety, stability, and well-being, we help give them hope and a path toward a brighter future.”
CASA for the Highland Lakes serves children across its fivecounty program area — Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba Counties — many of whom face uncertain futures due to abuse or neglect. Through dedicated advocacy, CASA volunteers help ensure children have access to services, educational support, and safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible.
“Child abuse prevention is a community responsibility,” Grubbs added. “We are proud to serve Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba Counties, and we rely on the compassion and involvement of our neighbors to make a lasting difference. Whether it’s becoming a CASA volunteer, wearing blue on Go Blue Day, or simply learning more about the signs of abuse, everyone can play a part in protecting children.”
Go Blue Day
As part of Child Abuse Awareness Month, CASA for the Highland Lakes invited the community to participate on April 10th for Go Blue Day by wearing blue to show solidarity with children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Supporters are encouraged to share photos on social media, tag CASA for the Highland Lakes, and help spread awareness about the importance of child advocacy. #Go Blue Day Throughout April, CASA will also highlight stories of impact, volunteer opportunities, and ways the public can support local children in foster care.
