Secrets to having green grass

I learned a lot about lawn and grass care while working in Bermuda grass research at the University of Arizona.

One of the most important things is to start working or preparing for a beautiful yard in advance. Waiting till the last minute will take a lot more effort, time and money, and it will still not be as beautiful. Not cutting the grass as short in the winter helps protect it and makes for faster growth or recovery in the spring. Proper watering and fertilization in late fall is important. Also, early spring watering and fertilization is vital. Not cutting the grass so short will help your yard stay greener longer and help it withstand those hot summer days. Actually, what is below ground or the root system can be more important than what you see above ground.

Proper yard or lawn care reminds me of the Christian life.

Doing the right things at the right time is very important. It is not what we see on top that counts but what is underneath or on the inside.

Reading our Bibles daily or frequently, scripture, memory, meditation, prayer and confession of sin are some essentials.

Psalm 1:2-3 but his (the blessed man) delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Psalm 2:11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 55:1 Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!

Colossians 4:2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Good Christian fellowship and attending worship services regularly are crucial.

Hebrews 10: 24- 25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Having a healthy well nurtured soul leads to a good Christian life, which is very pleasing to our Lord.

See you in Church next Sunday.
