Our Cherokee Indians basketball team won the bi-district game over Cranfills Gap last week with a final score of 48-31. Uriah Valdez and Jaxon White had 19 and 17 points respectively. The Indians played Kennard who are ranked #13 in the state and played well, being down only 3 at one point in the 4th quarter. Uriah Valdez led the Indians with 19 points and Tatum Shanklin was a big contributor with 12 points. However Kennard prevailed with a final score of 51-35, ending basketball season for the boys.
District honors are as follows: 6th man of the year - Weston Woolsey Co-offensive player of the year - Uriah Valdez 1st team all district - Tatum Shanklin, Cayden Houston, Jaxon White 2nd team all district - Robert Bench District honors for the girls are as follows: 1st team all district - Tilar Turman, Lily Graves 2nd team all district - Preslee Duggan, Taylor Randolph, Ella Graves All district honorable mention - Hannah Sims In other sports news, track has begun. Junior high will have a meet in Lometa this Tuesday, and high school will be in Llano. Golf is also getting started with a meet in San Saba this Monday and Glen Rose next week. Spring has sprung and it’s busy as usual!
