The Richland Springs Report

There’s a happy buzz in the community. Apparently, we are supposed to get some rain this week. This is music to the ears of our farmers and ranchers in the area. The ground is hard and needs some good soaking rain to restore life for our crops and animals. I have one tomato plant in the ground, and it looks good, but I noticed that Chrissy’s plants has some good-looking tomato plants, so I’m tempted to plant more. Yes, I know we could have one more freeze, but spring is in the air. The wild plums are blooming and the swallows are nesting. What can I say, I like to see things growing after a leafless winter.

One ACT Play’s trip to Ozona was productive. There are areas to tweak, but overall, the actors are doing a magnificent job. They will have another clinic here in Richland Springs on the 7th. They will compete for District at Lometa on the 13th of March. We wish them all the best, “Break a leg.”

The track meet last week was a tremendous success. Out of 15 teams, our boys brought home the gold. The girls placed fifth. I was pleased to see our senior boys were crucial to our wins. This makes me proud of them and their final events before graduation. The next track meet for junior high will be in Rising Star on the 2nd, followed by the high school track meet in Hico on the 5th.

The Ladies Quilting and Bible study group have stopped Tuesday meetings for the spring and summer, but they will be having two day sew-a-thons on the second Monday and Tuesday of every month. Ladies, bring your machines and sewing projects, as well as a dish for the meals. I attended the one last month, and I was amazed at the projects I was able to complete. More importantly, I spent time with a group of sweet-spirited ladies. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you don’t quilt, come for the fellowship.

The church programs for the kids, Shiloh Youth and First Baptist Kids’ Church take place every Wednesday. First Baptist will have a community egg quest at Easter. Spring brings a multitude of activities which means program disruptions. First Baptist typically suspends Wednesday Kids’ Church in late April or Early May.

Don’t forget to cheer our youth basketball teams. All levels are advancing to the next level of playoffs. Coyotes are strong, and our little school will survive any storm. Pray for the school and teachers and stand proud of our Coyotes.

Valerie Baker is doing better and praises the Lord for her improvement. Vicky Moreno needs our prayers as she continues her struggle with cancer treatments. T Bird Woods is home doing better after a six-day visit to the hospital. Please pray for the Hicks family as they mourn the passing of Jim Hicks. Please remember that the First Baptist Church has a food bank open for anyone in the community who needs food. Please don’t be shy. The food is there for those in need. I’ve written in the past that the church, community members, and Shiloh Church stock the pantry. Come share the harvest.

Please pray for Iran and for wisdom for President Trump as freedom is being delivered to the Iranians. Pray for our precious troops who are in harm’s way. The families of the servicemen killed or wounded by Iran need our prayers and condolences. Pray for our government, peace, and a large dose of common sense from our legislators. God bless America and God bless our precious troops and their families.

Next week the clocks spring forward and hour!
