You could see vehicles slowing down while entering San Saba this week. Yes, that is good since the speed limit is only 30 mph. However, it appeared, at times, that the cars were going a mere five miles an hour.
You may ask why? Major Auto parts had scaffolding up to the top of their building, and there were men on the scaffolding with huge sledgehammers knocking out the wall. Yes, the front wall to Major Auto parts is coming down.
Wondering if it was still open, I walked over there. The part right at the entrance wasn't blocked off, and I was able to enter the store.
I visited with the manager of the San Saba store, Jack Vaughn, to find out what was happening at our local NAPA auto parts store, Major Auto Parts.
He had told me about a year ago of future plans to expand and move the showroom. Well, that time is finally here.
Many of you saw the front part of the building just to the left of the current Major Auto Parts showroom and thought it was vacant. There were no steps leading up to any door to enter anything. It must be vacant. Right? Wrong!
This was also part of Major Auto Parts. As you entered the store, you could go straight, then turn left behind the counter and go into another part of the store. You just couldn't see it from the storefront or front lobby. Well, that extra room is now going to be their new showroom!
There will be a double-door entrance with steps leading up to the building from the sidewalk. Mr. Vaughn said the new showroom will make things so much easier because the products will all be in one place.
Currently, that future showroom is empty with studs showing the future location of the office and front counter. You can see photos on our website later this week!
The crew started tearing out the front wall this week, and the hopes are it will be finished in about a month.
The plans are for the current store (with the rock storefront) to be torn down to make room for a new parking lot.
Exciting things are happening in San Saba! If you have news you would like to share with our readers, tell me about it. (editor. sansabanews@centex.net)
Major Auto Parts is owned by Mark Major and Brooke Sides, his daughter. They also have a store in Goldthwaite.
This section (behind the demolition in the front) will be the new showroom. Shown here is the new office space behind the front counter space.
