70 Years Ago February 16, 1956

J. A. Parks of Locker community visited in San Saba. He stated that he expected to celebrate his 84th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Frank C. (Bubba) Walker, who formerly operated Walker’s Cleaners in San Saba, was employed on the sales staff of Duncan-Parks Chevrolet Co., according to an announcement by Eldon Duncan, one of the owners of the staff.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huffstetler of Denver City, former residents of San Saba county, have announced the birth of a daughter, Catherine, seven pounds and four ounces, born Jan. 25.

Tom McNeill of Richland Spgs., who visited the office of the News, stated that he had read every copy of the News since the first one was printed in 1873. He will be 91 on March 25. He and his daughter, Miss Naomi McNeill, make their home in Richland Springs.

Warren Randolph of Cherokee submitted his resignation to the County Commissioners Court asking to be relieved of his duties as a member of the board of trustees for San Saba Memorial Hospital.

60 Years Ago February 10, 1966

Mary Thompson, San Saba DECA student, won first place in public speaking at the Area V Youth Leadership Conference in Austin.

Several from Elm Grove attended the Rochelle Junior High basketball tournament. The Richland Springs girls won two games to come up with the consolation trophy.

Tommy Edmondson and Susan Walker, SSISD senior candidates, were named King and Queen of Hearts at the annual Valentine Dance.

The Shorthorn cattle entered in the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show by Larry and Betty Conner took several placings in their various divisions. In the junior show, Betty Conner won a fourth and sixth place with her Shorthorn entries. Larry Conner won a second and sixth place in the open show and a third place in the carcass division.

Have you driven south on Texas 16 lately, and crossed the five new bridges in so many miles? This is the handiwork of H. L. Freeland Construction Co. This bridge widening will prove a blessing to the county. There have been several lives lost on this road, due to the narrow bridges.
