The 2026 Property taxes become delinquent February 1st. State law requires a six percent penalty and one percent interest to be added to the tax bill beginning February 1st. The penalty and interest continue to accrue each month with one of the largest hits coming in July for most counties in the form of collection fees.
Not only are you faced with penalties, interest, and fees when you become delinquent, but a lien will be placed on the property. A property tax lien is attached to a piece of property by the local taxing authority when money is owed to them by the homeowner. If these properties are still unpaid after a certain time frame, your home could end up in foreclosure.
