Coyotes Secure Regional Championship

The Richland Springs Coyotes came away victorious in the Class A Division II Region IV Championship matchup against the Oglesby Tigers. The Coyotes have ended their past two seasons when facing the Tigers, so breaking this cycle was a milestone for the team as they move on to the State Semi-Final game.

“This game was personal this week, we wanted to take back what’s ours,” said Cohen Ethridge, “We’re not done. We want to go all the way and win state this year.” Richland Springs head coach Harley Ethridge added, “This is redemption. We’ve been looking forward to this for a year. We had some jitters early, but shook it off, and this just feels really great.”

The Coyotes’ had a 425-yard attack against Oglesby with 227 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, to go along with 123 passing yards and two scoring tosses. The two teams took turns scoring throughout the first quarter, but the Coyotes pulled ahead with 50 unanswered points, ending the game towards the end of the third quarter.

The Coyote defense limited Oglesby to 217 yards of total offense – 109 passing and 108 rushing – with five total stops, including a pair of interceptions by Evan Deeds.
