Last week we observed Veterans’ Day with a lunch sponsored by National Honor Society. Afterward our elementary students sang American the Beautiful and we recognized students who won our art and essay contests. Adri Arroyo, Dedmon Broyles, Walker Shanklin, and CW Merriman won the coloring contest. In the art contest, Adaline Latta placed 1st and Avery Wilson placed 2nd. In our essay contest, Taylor Randolph placed 1st and Preslee Duggan placed 2nd. We also listened to a wonderful speech by Captain Jacob Peterson who is active in the United States Air Force. He discussed the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices of the families of military personnel. In addition, he discussed things he loves about the military and some of the privileges that come along with it. Thank you Captain Peterson for taking the time to speak with us and thank you to all veterans and active duty members who sacrifice every day for us.
It was a great week in Cherokee sports too. Our varsity team won the bi-district playoff game against Rochelle with a final score of 70-24. They will play in Priddy Friday night to take on the Oglesby Tigers. Our basketball girls ended their game against Rochelle with a decisive win. The score was 45-11.
On Thursday we will host our college and career day, and then next week we will have no school! We hope everyone enjoys the break.
