I’ve prepared my wood stove for the upcoming cold front due this week. It’s a blast of cold straight from Alberta. I hope the weather will be warmer on Saturday when we have the grave side service for my daughter Tracy. I’m hauling out the winter coats just in case. My sisters would be hooting up a storm to see me running for a coat. I don’t care. I left Canada because it was too cold. After 21 years of snow and cold, I was ready for warm. I didn’t know there was a hot place here in Texas, but I can’t stand it better than cold. Just call me a sissy.
Junior high basketball has officially started. Coach Aviles had his first game on Monday. For all you football fans, the next varsity game will be Thursday against Calvert in the city of Blum. Game time will be 6:30 p.m. Come out and support your team. Go Coyotes go! Coach Eckert is looking for a few more girls so that she can make a varsity girls team. Coyotes fight never die. Let’s go girls and get this team going.
Fifteen kids and a half dozen sponsors came back from Gospel Rocks Ranch Saturday evening, tired but pumped from a day full of activities. The horseback riding, obstacle course and hiking activities kept everyone busy, but the underlying theme of every activity was God. Dr. Hager and his wife had a vision of this ranch, and it has grown each year to minister to area children.
Valerie Barker is doing well after her tumor removal, Sally Gossett is in Utah getting specialized care for her medical condition, Mark Francis is recovering from his recent stroke. There will be a memorial service for Shane Phillips at the First Baptist Church on the 15th. It was good to see JT Sewell up and around again.
Chrissy’s Plants welcomed many guests to their vendor day. A local band provided entertainment for the event. RS BOHO and several other vendors including the honey lady broadened the merchandise available. I loved the Santa arch as you entered the facility. Speaking of Santa, the Christmas Market sponsored by the Beautification Committee will be Saturday the 29th. I saw the Soto family putting up the decorations as I passed on Saturday evening. Please remember to put December the 6th on your calendar and join us for another impressive community luncheon. Let’s keep our tiny town hopping.
We need more rain, but I doubt that this front will bring anything other than aching bones. Lord, please be with our country as we work our way through the turmoil of this shutdown. Please be with our sick, our President and Congress and our police officers. Most of all, be with our precious troops and their families.
