Last week, our football boys wrapped up their regular season. Both our junior high and high school secured their title as district champions for the second year in a row. The varsity team will play in the bi-district championship this Thursday in San Saba at 6:30 p.m. This means our Glow Run is postponed until further notice.
In other sports news, our Lady Indians tipped off their 25-26 basketball season on Monday in Santa Anna. They will face the Rochelle Hornets on Friday in Cherokee at 6 p.m.
The Cherokee FFA Chapter is excited to announce that our Wildlife Career Development Event (CDE) Team is preparing for competition this season! The Wildlife CDE challenges students to develop skills in species identification, habitat evaluation, and wildlife management. These areas are essential to Texas conservation and agricultural education. To help our team prepare, we are seeking donations of educational and wildlife study materials. These items will be used for hands-on training, species identification practice, and habitat management learning activities. We are currently in need of the following items:
1. Waterfowl wings and feet
2. Books with clear identification pictures of waterfowl
3. Books on the animals and plants of Texas
4. Deer jawbones of various ages
5. Antlers and horns (including pronghorn) for measurement practice
6. Squirrel tails (adult and juvenile)
7. Breast feathers, beards, and legs from turkeys (tom and hen – adult and juvenile)
8. Legs and feathers from pheasants (adult and juvenile)
9. Skulls of furbearers, game animals, and unprotected nongame animals
10. Skins of furbearers, game animals, and unprotected nongame animals
11. Dove and quail wings (adult and juvenile)
If you or your organization would like to contribute, please contact Catherine Whiteley at cwhiteley@cherokeeisd.net or (325)622-4298 to arrange a drop-off or pickup. All donations will directly support our students as they learn about Texas wildlife and prepare for local, area, and state-level competition. Your support helps us continue the proud FFA tradition of developing leadership, responsibility, and agricultural knowledge in our students. Thank you in advance for investing in the next generation of Texas wildlife conservation leaders!
Our GT students will be holding a bake sale fundraiser for the Wreaths Across America program here in Cherokee on November 19th at dismissal. If you are willing to make a dessert, cookies, brownies, etc.; please sign up in the office. If you would like to sponsor a wreath, they are $17. All proceeds go towards purchasing Christmas wreaths to lay on the graves of our veterans at Cherokee Cemetery. This is a very special program that we have done for the past couple of years and the students really get a lot out of it.
Lots of great things are happening here at Cherokee ISD!
