San Saba Garden Club

San Saba Garden Club membership along with three guests met Tuesday, November 4, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, San Saba, to enjoy an afternoon of “hands on” learning as all made holiday arrangements and boutonnières from beautiful flowers, twigs, nuts, ornaments, and greenery, much of which was collected from our own yards and pastures. Donna McKinney, an extra talented member, led us in choosing design, selecting flowers, and building our masterpieces. Several large arrangements were later shared with folks at San Saba Rehab.

Betty Jo Fisher and Debbie Shahan served as hostesses, and Janis Murray welcomed everyone to her home church that has graciously offered their space for our meetings when needed while our historic meeting place is waiting to be reconstructed within. Attendees heard of the progress of our fund raising efforts in the business meeting led by copresidents, Marjean Alexander and Cindy Sloan. Quilt Raffle monies along with the recently announced Memorial/in Honor of Pavers Project have generated a great deal of funds along with generous donations to our Rebuilding Account. In other business, the Youth Committee announced 22 San Saba Elementary School students will be receiving awards and prizes for their efforts in the local, district, state, and national Garden Club contests of Poetry, Sculpture, and Poster Contests.

Everyone delighted in the fun, fellowship, and hope for brighter days ahead when we are back in the old mill house building in Mill Pond Park that we can claim then that “We Saved Twice!”
