The Mills County Historical Museum at Goldthwaite hosted a reception on Sunday, October 19, at the museum to honor the visit of Comanche Tribal Chairman Forrest Tahdooahnippah from Oklahoma. Mayor J Wilson presented the Chairman with a Proclamation declaring Monday, October 20, 2025, as “Chairman Forrest Tahdooahnippah Day.” The Chairman offered remarks concerning the joined history of both the Comanche nation and Mills County, as well as surrounding counties and the importance of recognizing and preserving historical, cultural and sacred landmarks.
Several other Comanche members traveled from Oklahoma to the event. Angela Garza, her mother, Marlene, brother JW and his friend, Sharon were in attendance. They will be prepared an authentic Comanche meal for the Penatuhkah Comanche Trails Partnership meeting to be held Monday, October 20, at the MC Bank event room.
County Judge Jett Johnson also welcomed the Chairman to Mills County and extended to him a tour of the historic courthouse on Monday.
Following the reception the Chairman was taken on a tour of several smoke signaling points atop mountains here in the area.
