110 Years Ago November 4, 1915
A miscellaneous shower was given in the home Mrs. O. J. Wise in honor of Mrs. P. N. Johnson. Games of various kinds were enjoyed and at a late hour a salad course was served. Mrs. Johnson received several nice and useful presents.
Ice Cream Matinee at the Majestic. Each person buying a ticket will receive an ice cream cone and a pretty picture. Out of town people especially invited. Admission 5¢ and 10¢.
Miss Rose Broyles left for Bend where she went to begin her school. This makes her second year at that place. She is the primary teacher and a very successful one.
Armstrong & Co. have located in San Saba and opened a produce house on the east side of the square where they will be glad to meet our people who have anything to sell in their line. The hunters started out bright and early to be on the hunting ground in the morning. Hunting parties have been hiking for the timber every day this week and the quota of “three bucks” will be reached by many this week and “proxy” shooting will have to be indulged until the end of the season.
30 Years Ago November 2, 1995
The Cherokee Jr. High football team played a good game but lost to the Rochelle Hornets. Rommy White scored three touchdowns and one extra point, Paul Gonzales scored two touchdowns and Kurt Whitley scored two extra point.
A party was held at Eventide Nursing Home celebrating October birthdays. Oatman Green, 91 years young, from Georgetown came to entertain the residents, signing hymns, cowboy songs and Irish songs. Celebrating birthdays in October were Leta Latham, Margaret Wilborn, Sophi Pope, Ada Estep, Corine Spinks and Grover Patton. Ada Estep was 100 on Oct. 20.
King Silvestre Barco and Queen Sally Cowan, Princess Katie Gibson and Prince Logan Lewis were crowned royalty at the Richland Springs Fall Festival.
Melissa Barrier, Kristi Murray, Danna Land and Amanda Hunt are this year’s Jr.. High Twirlers. These seventh grade girls recently competed in the Regional UIL twirling contest. They received a II on their ensemble.
Richland Springs High School competed in a cross country meet at the Coleman Country Club in Coleman. Richland Springs was proud to have Christa Catchings, Samantha Weeks, Tamarah Wood, Jaki Gibson and Amber Moreno representing the High School. Christa Catchings came in seventh place and successfully made it to Regional.
