Republican Party Primary Election Update

As Early Voting is underway for the November 4th Constitutional Amendment Special Election, some of us are already thinking about the next election, the Republican Party Primary Election, slated for Tuesday, March 3, 2026. In addition to Governor, US Senator and other vital, state-wide races, locally we have a full slate of contests as well.

If you are considering running for County Judge, County Clerk, County Commissioner for either Precinct 2 or 4, County Treasurer, or our new position, County Tax Assessor-Collector, please remember there is a $750 filing fee, payable to the Republican Party of San Saba County, to apply for a slot on the March ballot.

If you plan to run for Justice of the Peace, the filing fee is $375 and for County Surveyor it is $75. These fees are not refundable should you decide later to withdraw your candidacy.

These fees help pay for the costs to run a primary and any excess fees collected locally must, by law, be transferred to the Texas Secretary of State.

If you plan to run for a Republican Party position, either County Chair or Precinct Chair, there are no filing fees for these positions.

The application period to get on the ballot runs from Saturday, November 8th, to Monday, December 8th, and closes promptly at 6 p.m. that day. I will be in the Courthouse on Monday, November 10th, to take applications, and will be available throughout the filing time period.

Our incumbents in each of the County positions are: County Judge Jody Fauley, County Clerk Christi Whitley, County Commissioner Precinct 2 Mike Poe, County Commissioner Precinct 4 Greg McGregor, County Treasurer Lois Van-Beck, Justice of the Peace

Sharon Blossman and County Surveyor George Amthor.

Republican Party incumbents are County Chair Jeff Carlson, Precinct 1 Chair Randal Hawkins, Precinct 2 Chair Cindy Sloan, Precinct 3 Chair Johana Huff, and Precinct 4 Chair Leif Haug.

Candidates for County positions should use Secretary of State Form 2-4 (08/2025) and Republican Party positions use SoS Form 2-3 (08/ 2025) to apply.

Before submitting your application, please check to ensure you are a Registered Voter in San Saba County and meet all residency and positional requirements for the office you are seeking.

All applications must be submitted to the Republican Party County Chair, and not the County Clerk, in order to be valid.

Good luck to all candidates.
