Tour of the International Water Lily Collection

On Tuesday, October 7th, San Saba Garden Club members took leave of their planning and fundraising efforts for the devastated clubhouse in Mill Pond Park to travel to San Angelo to visit the International Water Lily Collection in Civic League Park. Here in the heart of the west Texas city, one finds a serene oasis where you can immerse yourself in the splendor of a vast array of many species of water lilies. Ken Landon began the project over 40 years ago at his home, growing it into what are now seven lush public pools filled with floppy lily pads and vibrantly plump water lilies atop the waters. Below the masses are miniature fish swimming in their heaven. We also enjoyed the Civic League Park dressed with lovely native plantings and walkways while visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Proctor, San Angelo residents. Bill is pastor of New Hope Presbyterian Church in the Sloan community of San Saba County. Lunch, fellowship, and shopping were enjoyed by the eight attendees before traveling back home to San Saba.

Our next meeting will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 207 W. Commerce on Tuesday, November 4, at 2 p.m. featuring a program led by Donna McKinney on Making Christmas Arrangements.

Please come see our Club Members hosting our Quilt Raffle at San Saba Citywide Cleanup, 9 a.m. - noon, October 18, and at the Pecan Capital Trade Days in front of the Courthouse in November. You may find some other goodies there as well!!
