Down Memory Lane

Mrs. Olive Baker and daughter, Miss Maymee Baker, were visitors in this community with their relatives, the Sloans. Mrs. Baker, widow of the late Jno. T. Baker, is a native of old Rock Shoals, now Sloan.

Marvin C. Condra, shipfitter third class, San Saba, Texas, has been serving with the 85th Naval Construction Battalion here, climaxing, with the war’s end, a long period of duty that began in the Aleutians.

Scoring in the last two minutes of play, San Saba downed a Comanche high school football squad 6-0 here Friday night. Clark, quarterback, made the tally after recovering a fumble.

The three dozen lamps in the hardware store of W. T. Little & Sons here soon disappeared a few hours after San Saba people realized that a power strike had struck San Saba County early morning. Rapid sales of lamps were reported in other stores in the city, but a good supply of lanterns were available, while a small supply of candles was on hand in several places.

Le Elta and Robin Rawls of San Saba spent Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. Hilly Walker and they all toured the lake area and grilled their hamburgers at the Inks Lake Saturday.

Newcomers to the community are Steve and Dit Trout who have moved into the Clarence Tatsch house. They are both students at Howard Payne and Steve pastors the Bowser Community Church.

Biggie Spears tried a different fishing hole and came up with some fish that are total strangers to San Saba County. The fish are two flounder, a speckled trout and a Red. Spears caught the fish in Freeport Bay and brought them home for friends to see. His specialty is still catfish––big ones that is.

In the Varsity volleyball game, the girls came from behind to also win two out of three games. They lost the first game 14-16 but overpowered the Marble Falls girls 15-7 and 15-3 to win the match. High servers were Barbara Bailey, Jayne Lindsey and Connie Eden. This gives the varsity a perfect season so far with three wins and no defeats.
