The Richland Springs Report

I’ve put another busy week behind me and fully intend to take it easy for a few weeks. I’m working on a small quilt, but there is no rush to finish. We’re progressing well in school, so there is time for a few fun experiments and labs. My yard does need some significant help, but I can squint and pretend it looks good until I can get to it. The weather is perfect for yard work and sewing in my quilt house.

Mrs. Starr is giving me a schedule for weekly events, so perhaps I can keep up better.

This Tuesday, the junior high Lady Coyotes will be playing volleyball at home against Brookesmith. The game begins at 6:00 p.m.

October 1st, cross country will compete at Rolling Oaks Golf against Rising Star. High school runs at 9:00 a.m. and junior high at 4:00 p.m.

Thursday is junior high football at home versus Lometa, kick-off at 6:00 p.m.

Friday, Varsity will play at Lometa with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.

October 4th, the Lady Coyotes will play at Rising Star at 11:00 a.m.

We will have a football home game next Friday against Brookesmith.

I wanted to give a shout-out to Cecilia Tavera for her outstanding serving performance in last week’s volleyball game. CeCe served up 10 outstanding service winners. All our players are winners, but I will try to highlight a few each week.

The Pee Wee football games will be held Saturday starting with the flag football teams at 8:00 a.m. Lometa will be the host team.

The Basquettes, Chuck and Jackie, manned the gate at the Sandbur Boogie Saturday night. Attendance was down from last year, but everyone who attended had a fun time. I hope we can get a better turnout next year.

The monthly potluck luncheon hosted by the Preservation Society was held Sunday at the Community Center. We had another great crowd of local citizens. I spoke with one lady, an excellent cook, and we agreed that it’s a wonderful time of fellowship, a time to bring out your best dishes, and a time to enjoy someone else’s good cooking. All I can do is say thank you to everyone who brought food, stayed, and fellowshipped and paid to eat their own food. It’s a great community, and the bank is a great cause. Many thanks to Paige Moats for setting up the hall and the McKinnerney boys for tearing down the tables. The RSPS team will be ordering three new window replacements which will hopefully be in by November. The luncheons we hold are paying for the $1,600 per window replacement costs. Once the entire building is dried in and safe, we can start rebuilding the upstairs area. The new roof is wonderful.

While we were cleaning up the community center, we received word that Keston Lusty had been attacked by a large group of people at a concert he was attending. Fortunately, he received a good report and was sent home. My first thought was, did anybody check the rest of those people. I guarantee Keston taught a few of them some home truths. He’s one tough young man. We were pleased to see Jody Lewis join everyone for lunch. He is doing well after his liver transplant. Shirley Harlow’s grandson, Jarrett, is recovering from a massive electrical shock. Surgeons feel they can give him more time to heal before they must talk about removing his foot. This is good news for this young man. There are so many more on the prayer list.

Please pray for our country, world peace, our government that is facing a shutdown, our policing agents, and our little community. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.

Have a wonderful week.
