Winter is coming if the arrival of the Ruby-Throated Hummers are a reliable sign. The last 10 days have seen those aggressive little guys taking over the feeders. It seems they think it’s time to fly south so maybe the Almanac is correct and we are going to have an early and hard winter. I better get the woodpile built up just in case.
I attended the volleyball game against the Brady Bulldogs. The game was the tiny underdog team, Richland Lady Coyotes, playing the power team of Brady Bulldogs. Our ladies played with heart and spirit. Six girls under new coach Eckert facing a team of 20 or more. The first game was a wash, but game two the score was 25-17 for Brady. I loved the attitude and perseverance of our girls. Thank you, ladies, for an entertaining and uplifting game.
Meet the Coyotes was extremely successful this year. Our cheerleader sponsors Courtney and Jacey have done a first-class job getting the girls ready. Naturally, the crowd loves to see the football lineup from K - varsity, but the hit of the night was the lift off. This was a fundraiser for the football team. Select athletes lifted weights for one minute. Sponsors for the event raised over $5,000. The money will be used for equipment and items not covered by the budget.
Friday was a super active day. Both the junior varsity and varsity boys played football against May. Their blow-up entry tunnel was gigantic. I swear the gateway was at least 20 feet tall. It was a treat to see. Fortunately, it’s not the size of your tower, but the size of your game that counts. It was a good clean game with very few penalties one either side. May jumped out to an early lead, but our Coyotes pulled it together and finished with the win.
The game was followed by the Fifth Quarter meal for athletes and fans.
Thank you to the congregations of the Shiloh and First Baptist Church for offering this treat to our students. This is a terrific opportunity for our fans to congratulate the athletes. I personally appreciate the fact that those worn-out boys take the time to come out and be seen. Thank you to all who participated. There will be another Fifth Quarter this Friday. I believe they will invite the visiting team since they have such a long journey home. Come out and support our team on the field and at the Fifth Quarter.
The Beautification Committee had another delicious morning fundraiser this past Sunday. Frank Pearce did a magnificent job flipping those pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Paige Moats told me that had an excellent turnout. I took mine home for lunch so I wouldn’t have to cook. Thank you to all who participated.
We have two more fundraising events for the community. We will have another potluck luncheon towards the end of the month.
Paige Moats will also be running the second annual Sandbur Boogie at the Rodeo Arena. Look for notices in Facebook and in the newspaper for more information. Last year’s boogie was a unique family and community event.
The fan wagon will be at the next home game. The new hats and shirts are light gray camo, and I’m sure we need to see them in the crowd. I hope to see everyone there.
Please pray for our school, our community, our President, our government in Austin and Washington and our unsettled world. We need strong prayers for peace in Europe. Our own special lady, Miss Bea, is walking with a boot and needs healing. We have several in the nursing home. If you have time, please visit and say hello. Pray for our first responders, police, and ICE officers, but most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
