The Richland Springs Report

Welcome, August; farewell, summer break. In one short week, we will be back in school. Presently, teachers are out gathering and buying supplies for their classrooms. I know several have put classroom needs on Amazon. Thank you to those parents and community members who have risen to the call and purchased items for teachers at their school. If you can help, you will lighten a teacher’s load.

Along with the buying of materials is the classroom prep. I went to the weight room to ask Coach Ethridge a question and found him hard at work vacuuming and tidying the area. I couldn’t resist taking a photo. It’s a delight to see a man working with tools. The room was looking organized and clean. That is challenging when you have old facilities. My classroom is still a work in progress. High on my list is soundproofing the adjoining math room with the science lab. I’m evaluating my options for speed and expense.

There will be several fresh faces teaching our students. I will try to introduce them as I get familiar with them.

This week, I’ll focus on Antonia Valdez. Miss Valdez has two children: Amy will be in kindergarten and Axel will attend Pre-K. I taught Antonia starting in fifth grade. It makes me proud to see her using her talents as a teacher. She is taking over my old spot teaching 3-5th science and other fifth grade subjects. Welcome back to your hometown.

Vacation Bible School went very well. Approximately 25 children participated. Mrs. Kristy Perry was the coordinator, and under her supervision things ran like clockwork.

Trying to keep that many children moving and participating takes skill and patience. Thank you to her wonderful volunteers who came daily to feed, educate and play games with our kids.

Last Thursday’s board meeting was posted in the Coyote Den for public consumption. There is still a sound issue, but it is getting better. The meeting covered staff contracts, student handbook issues, dual class credits and other financial issues. Mr. Faircloth was approved as our principal for the 2025-2026 school year.

He expressed his pleasure at the physical state of the school and looks forward to collaborating with the staff and students. Thank you to the community members who are posting our meetings on the web.

We’re feeling the loss of Johnie Reeves. The music team is used to hearing him pouring out his joy in the Lord. He was never to shy to belt out his love of God and music. He has left a hole in our church and in the lives of the multitude of people who were blessed by his love. Our hearts hurt for Lynn and his family.

Please pray for peace, for our country, our President and Congress. I wish our political parties could learn to work together civilly. Pray for our teachers and students. The first few weeks are always a challenge as routines are relearned. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
