The Science Mill STEM-based science museum in Johnson City, Texas, is kicking off the school year with a fun-filled day of hands-on STEAM activities for kids, parents, and educators on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
“This is the perfect way to kick off the new school year by treating our incredible educators,” said Science Mill Senior Education Specialist, Aileen Torres. “We've packed the day with hands-on STEAM activities, all designed to spark new ideas that teachers can easily bring back to their classrooms. Plus, with our dedicated Teacher's Lounge and giveaways, it's our way of saying thank you to these hardworking professionals before they dive back into the school year, and that we are always here to support their efforts.”
Activities Include:
Rainbow Chemistry - Guests will test household solutions, to see how the pH of each solution affects the color it produces. It’s a simple way to learn about acids, bases, and the science behind chemical reactions.
Roll Call...Ozobots! - A chance to program an Ozobot path and watch it follow the design.
Classroom Catapults -Using everyday items such as popsicle sticks and rubber bands, plus a little creativity, guests will build their very own catapult.
Careers in Cardboard - Using only cardboard, future engineers will design and build a project inspired by STEM careers.
Shape Shifters - Guests will dive into the world of tangrams by cutting, coloring, and personalizing their own puzzle pieces–a mix of art and problem-solving.
Special Guest - Award-winning author Kathleen J. Shields will be presenting some of her STEM-themed, educational children’s books.
As a special thank-you, educators are invited to a Teachers Lounge where they can enjoy refreshments, swag, and extra appreciation before the new school year begins.
