After the devastating floods in July, San Saba County Friends of Animals faced one of the most difficult times in our rescue’s history. Our storage unit was completely flooded, and we lost nearly 95% of our supplies and the essentials we relied on to care for the animals. In the middle of all the heartache, something powerful happened our community rose up. Through your compassion, your donations, and your endless support, you reminded us of what community really means. To our incredible volunteers who weren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and help clean out our flooded unit, and to those who donated supplies when we needed them most, you made what felt impossible, possible.
A huge thank you to Austin Pets Alive and Hill Country Humane who partnered with us to relocate and rehome over 77 animals, making space to welcome in beloved pets displaced by the flooding. To their teams thank you for getting in the trenches and assisting with search and rescue. Another thanks to Austin Pets Alive for assisting by helping handout needed supplies to our community. Your presence brought relief in the chaos. To Llano Animal Rescue, who was first in line to show up with supplies and donations when we needed it most, we thank you. Your support meant more than words can express. The many surrounding shelters who reached out to check on us or asked how they could help. To Albert and Kay Stowell and the City of San Saba for your kindness in allowing us to store donated supplies in spaces. Your kindness helped us breathe again. And to every single person who has offered help, sent love, or asked how to support us, we see you, and we are so deeply grateful. We are so sorry if we we did not mention everyone but with the chaos and amount of support it is truly difficult to mention all.
As we look ahead, our hearts remain full but our work is far from over. We realized during the flood even more how much we need a shelter. From housing animals for flood victims to relocated found animals. Our next big dream is to build a permanent animal shelter right here in San Saba County. It will be a safe haven for the animals of today and a lasting resource for generations to come. We are currently raising funds to make this dream a reality. If you’re able, please consider becoming a monthly donor. Every dollar brings us one step closer to a future where no animal is left behind even in the darkest of storms.
