House Speaker Mike Johnson announced (July 3, 2025) Thursday afternoon about the Big Beautiful Bill, "On this vote, the Yeas are 218; the Nays are 214. The motion is adopted."
The News Office immediately started receiving opinions on what had just happened.
Here are some of those opinions (on opposite sides) of the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill.
Pfluger Statement on Passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill
Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) released the following statement after voting to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill.
"The passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill today is a big, beautiful win for Texas families, workers, seniors, and small businesses. This legislation locks in President Trump's historic tax cuts — protecting taxpayers in my district from a devastating 26% tax increase, which would have been the largest in American history. It also delivers $13.5 billion in border reimbursements for states like Texas, and makes the most significant investments in border security ever seen.
"This bill reclaims America's energy independence — lowering energy costs for families, creating high-paying jobs in the Permian Basin, and reversing President Biden's disastrous energy policies. I fought to make sure Texas values were reflected in this package: from much-needed support through strategic investments for farmers and ranchers, to ending forced taxpayer funding of abortion, to nearly $150 billion in military investments that will directly support the incredible men and women serving at Goodfellow Air Force Base and Fort Hood.
"The American people are tired of business as usual in Washington. They demanded that we secure the border, eliminate wasteful spending, and make life genuinely affordable for hardworking American families – and this bill does exactly that."

Feeding Texas Issues Statement on Budget Reconciliation Passage and Devastating SNAP Cuts
Today (7/3/25), Congress passed a budget reconciliation bill that delivers devastating cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), threatening the food security of millions of Americans. Feeding Texas issues the following statement from CEO Celia Cole on the bill’s passage:
“We are deeply disappointed by Congress’s passage of a budget reconciliation bill that will gut food assistance and shift billions in costs to states like Texas. This legislation marks the most devastating rollback of food assistance in our nation’s history—slashing an estimated $186 billion from SNAP and reneging on our nation’s commitment to ensuring access to food for those in need.
“In Texas, the consequences will be severe. The state will be forced to absorb an estimated $806 million annually in new SNAP obligations, placing an untenable strain on our budget and threatening the food security of millions of Texans. Families already struggling to afford groceries, rent, and healthcare will face even greater hardship. Seniors, veterans, working parents, and children will be pushed further into poverty—not because they’ve done anything wrong, but because the burden of balancing the budget was placed disproportionately on those already facing the greatest challenges.
“At the heart of a just and compassionate society is the belief that no one should go hungry. Access to food is a basic human need. Ensuring that every person, regardless of age, parental or employment status, or other circumstance, can put food on the table is not just a matter of policy—it’s a reflection of our shared values.
“The Feeding Texas network stands united in our commitment to fight hunger, but food banks cannot fill the gap left by these cuts. Preventing hunger is a responsibility we all share. It strengthens families, supports children’s growth and learning, protects the health of seniors, fuels our economy, and ensures a healthy, competitive workforce. When we invest in food security, we invest in a stronger, more resilient Texas. Together, we must uphold the promise that in this country—and in this state—everyone has a seat at the dinner table. We urge our leaders to remember that a budget is a moral document, and this one fails the test.”
- Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas, the state association of food banks
