Passing on traditions to future generations

The quilting ladies are having another sew day in July. I will miss it. Since our Graceful Quilters are grandmothers, many of them are teaching their grandkids the art of sewing. Kathy Davie sent me a picture of her two granddaughters and their summer project. Toni Hill and Lynda DeGroot have worked this summer to pass on their sewing skills. We grannies are building our future quilters.

We need to have someone to pass our fabric stashes onto after we go to quilting heaven.

The good news for me this week is that my expedited passport has arrived. Obviously not in time for Greece, but I can go to Canada for a few weeks. It’s not Santorini, or the home of Mary and John the Apostle, but I will get to visit with my sisters and brother. It will be a quiet and restful time of fishing and swimming instead of the hustle and bustle of onboard activities. I want to say thank you again to all the lovely people who have felt my pain when I was turned away at the airport. This area has some lovely sympathetic people. The outpouring of love made my heart feel better.

There is a school board meeting on Monday after the newspaper deadline, so I won’t be able to report the results. As many know by now, our administrator and principal have resigned. I struggled with that decision because Mrs. Wilson is a superstar and a highly qualified principal. If you would like a copy of her resignation letter, contact someone on the school board. This should be public information. I will miss her. There’s no need to point fingers; that is counterproductive. I wish people would understand that sending nasty emails is not appropriate. That goes for our entire society.

It’s so easy to vent online or in a text. We say things we wouldn’t say in person. Let’s please get back to being respectful and civil. I think my first columns over a decade ago spoke of a return of civility in our government. It needs to extend to civility in every area of our society. We have freedom of speech, but it should be productive, not destructive. Let’s restore peace and civility to our town. Our school needs us to be united and loving.

Have you signed up to be in the parade on Saturday?

Have you entered your backed goods for the judges?

All you domino players be sure to get your domino fingers ready.

A fun time is coming. RS BoHo Unique will have a snow cone machine, Shoppe 1910 has a tremendous sale for Saturday, First Baptist will be touring the town with water bottles for overheated attendees, and many vendors will be displaying their wares. Come and join the fun.

The family of Nila Barclay Brown sent a wonderful donation to the RSPS to aid in their renovations of the bank building. There are many upgrades to be made in the old bank building, and all donations are invited and welcomed.

Although many areas in the world are coming to peaceful terms and cease-fires, we still have several areas that need to come to peaceful solutions. Please pray for our war zones.

Prayers are needed for several cancer patients in our area that are fighting this horrible disease. My baby sister received a positive report on her cancer; others are not so fortunate. Pray for our government and civility between our parties. Pray for our upcoming football season under head coach Harley Ethridge. I will be in Canada next week but will send photos of my lake time. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
