Lenny's Life Lessons

Hello, dearest San Saba friends, and how has this last week been for you? Okay, you all know I have an aversion to cats, well mom played such a mean trick on me!! She played a video of cats meowing on her laptop and then took a video of me on the couch looking out the window trying to spot them and howling my dachshund head off! How embarrassing! Even worse than that…she posted it!! Okay, I admit, a dachshund howling is just about the cutest thing in the entire world, but I really hate being fooled! I do have to tell you mom hugged me so tightly and apologized!

June is a strange month for mom so I stay extra close to her. This past weekend was particularly difficult. Many of you may have known my dad, Harold, well Saturday was the second anniversary of his death. Sunday, Father’s Day, was June 15th which was also Father’s Day in 1969, the day mom’s dad died. Next week on June 21st, it will be 41 years ago since mom’s mom died. Her grandfather died in June too. Just not a great month for her.

I wanted to do something for mom yesterday because we spent the day all alone. The only way I could think to talk to her dad was to write him a letter so I did. I thought I would share it with you.

Dear Grandpa Lieban,

My name is Lenny, and we never got a chance to love each other as you died on this day 56 years ago. That day was Father’s Day then too. Mom has told me so much about you and how special you were to her and she was to you.

I want you to know you need not worry about mom because I keep her life full of love, laughter, with a touch of looney. I am fiercely protective of her, completely devoted to her as were you and spend all my time with her.

She misses you and I know because her eyes light up with such a deep love with her memories of you. I can tell you left her life way too soon, she was still in high school and you left an enormous hole in her heart.

Don’t worry, grandpa, I take wonderful care of her! I fill her days with unconditional love, goofy antics, so much laughter, and constant, loving attention. I apologize in advance for my inability for not being an adept baseball player, but after all, I am a dachshund!

Love Lenny

I hope you have a wonderful week my special friends. Mom and I keep you in our thoughts and wish such great things for you! If you drive by and see us sitting out on the porch be sure to wave!

Love, Lenny
