Setting the record straight

Do you want to know the truth?

Here is your chance. There are many ways to get information about San Saba County: friends, Facebook, your hairdresser, who ever happens to be picking up their mail at the Post Office when you go everyday.

I had sometime tell me last week... The first thing they do every morning is look at Facebook to make sure they aren't missing anything going on in town.

The only problem with getting your information in any these ways is you are basing your beliefs on what people think and their opinion on what they heard, or think they heard.

Worse than that, it not only affects your beliefs, but also your thoughts, your actions, and your reactions to other people.

Richland Springs ISD recently had a school board meeting, and since then, rumors have been flying.

So you won't have to wonder what happened and just go by hearsay, I went straight to the source, a good source.

I contacted Gunner Mann, the President of the Richland Springs School Board. Following are some information items he provided.

• Richland Springs Principal Amy Wilson will be here again next year. The teachers are very supportive of her, and the Board is glad she is here to make Richland Springs ISD even better.

• Richland Springs had a coach that was suspended by UIL on September 12, 2022. He was a great coach with an amazing winning record that can't be denied, and many in Richland Springs would like to see him come back as a coach. However, allowing him to come back to RS ISD before that suspension is up would put the entire school district at risk of forfeiting all UIL events.

• Richland Springs ISD is not closing. The state gives every school district a “report card” every year. That grade is based off of everything in school academics, electives, attendance, state testing, etc. Those scores are also two years behind. Richland Springs received a 77 from two years ago and just got their score back from the last year, and it’s an 84. (100 being the highest) Richland Springs ISD Board President Gunner Mann wants you to know, “Richland Springs ISD is in great shape with administration, teachers, and staff.”

So what does all this mean for you?

Next time you want to know something, don't see what others are “saying or gossiping about it.” Just go straight to the source. It saves time, stress, and a lot of hurt feelings.
