Thunderstorm Repeat

We had strong thunderstorms that went through town on Thursday, May 22nd. But then, just six days later – before everything could be cleaned up and cleared away, another thunderstorm came through.

Some information and photos from that storm were shared in our May 30th digital newsletter. You can find that story - “San Saba hit hard again by storms” on our website www.sansabanews.com.

Thankfully, the San Saba Golf Course, which was hit so hard with the May 22nd storm, did not sustain as much damage from this second storm.

On Wednesday, May 28th, the thunderstorm came really fast and hit very hard. Some businesses closed early so employees could get home before it hit. Everyone headed for shelter.

The winds were very strong, again. So strong, some structures were destroyed. The awning on the square across the street from the Courthouse in front of H&R Block and Hair Care on the Square was blown right off to the ground – and through the handrail of the stairs going up the sidewalk in front of the businesses.

The sign remnants have now been cleaned up, but you can see the sign that was behind that sign that was painted on the building - San Saba Deluxe Cleaners.

There is also an awning across the street from that – the one in front of our news office. It seemingly was not harmed in the storm.

The area by Riggs Feed and Fertilizer at West Pierce and 9th Street in San Saba suffered a lot of damage with demolished buildings and torn off roofs. However, the storage units right across the street from there don’t appear damaged at all.

The Sheriff’s office sounded the alert alarm to warn citizens of the impending danger with this storm. If you ever hear that alarm, please take it seriously.
