100 Years Ago June 4, 1925
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Parks of Locker came down last Friday for the closing exercises of school and visited with their daughter, Mrs. S. G. Boynton. Miss Anna who attended school here the past session returned home with them.
Mrs. Jas. McCall and son, Geo. E. McCall of Dallas are visiting in the home of Rev. R. K. McCall and wife, and are taking in a few days of fishing on the San Saba River.
A new filling station is under construction opposite the fair grounds and will be conducted by Will Ashby of the Conner-Ashby Motor Co. This new station will be of great convenience to the tourists, as Mr. Ashby is also an experienced grocery man, he will handle a line of groceries especially fitting for tourists.
“Home again,” said T. C. Henry and family, after they were established in their new bungalow which has just been completed. The family is elated with us to come and see the most convenient cottage in San Saba.
Cupid has been rather active the last few days. Mr. Grafton Broyles and Miss Lou Nora Davis were married May 2 but never announced it until the close of school. Miss Willie Johnson and Roy Maultsby were married Saturday. Willie was a high school graduate too. Announcements have been received of the marriage of Miss Hattie Randolph to Mr. William J. Summers of Oklahoma City, the 24 of May.
50 Years Ago June 5, 1975
A recent drive for mental health in San Saba raised $528.41 for The Texas Association for Mental Health. Tom J. Caldwell, Jr., President of the citizens’ association, expressed his appreciation to Mrs. T. J. Meador.
Marine Private First Class William F. Morris Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Morris of Lometa, has reported for duty at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. A 1974 graduate of Lometa High School, he joined the Marine Corps in December, 1974.
Duchesses for the San Saba Rodeo will be Dianna Hardman and Lisa McHorse. Miss McHorse was first runner-up wit $739 in ticket sales. Miss Hardman was 2nd runner-up with $364. They will escort Melinda Miles, the 1975 Rodeo Queen, in the Parade and Grand Entry.
The San Saba Municipal Golf Course has a new addition––a club room above the pro shop which will be available for use by all visitors. The trim and outside were painted and other improvements at the course include the planting of pecan trees. The course is becoming more and more popular. The Men’s Partnership Tournament attracted 84 teams and a record number of Ladies Teams are expected for the Annual Ladies Partnership Tournament.
The new drive-in facilities at the San Saba National Bank are nearing completion with installation of the night depository, direct and remote control service facilities. Paving, carpet and a few incidentals are to be installed and it will be open for business soon, says Wallace Hinyard, president.
