MSG Stephen Terrence Schoch

On Friday, May 23, 2025 Stephen “Terry” Schoch – revered patriarch, soldier, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away.

Terry was born at Station Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on Leap Day (February 29), 1936 to parents Leo and Hazel (Terry) Schoch. He graduated from Paris American High School in France in 1954 and then joined the US Army where he was a career soldier and ultimately achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Part of his responsibility in the Army was with Satellite Communications. He was stationed in Korea for one tour and served three tours in Vietnam during wartime. He was also stationed in Germany and the United States throughout his career. After his retirement, he started a family business with his siblings called Telephonics in San Antonio, Texas.

Terry was the family genealogist, spending a lot of time on Ancestry. com updating the family tree tracing back to the 1600s. He was a descendant of a Revolutionary War soldier. He was proud of being a Texan and frequently enjoyed being on the family farm in San Saba. As an avid coin and gun collector, he shared these passions with several of his brothers and knew all there was to know about historical guns. In addition, he loved operas and marching music, and many of his ringtones on his phone consisted of these genres.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Hazel; his brother, Michael; and his sister, Caroline. He is survived by his siblings: Paul, Rita, Louise, Phillip, Pamela, Kyra (Jimmy) and Alan (Sylvia); and by his five children: Christina (Jeff), Stuart, Eric, Patrick, and Alexandra (Richard); his 10 grandchildren: Chance, Joseph, Timothy, Rhiannon, Nicholas, Ariel, Sean, Silke, Morgan, and Lauren; as well as his great-grandsons, Maximus and Logan.

A memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
