Catching up with the Commissioners

Before the Commissioners started on their agenda items for the day, Chief Deputy Reid Daly reminded everyone about the National Police Week ceremony that would take place on May 14 on the south side of the courthouse at 6 p.m. It was to salute fallen officers in this state of Texas.

San Saba County Judge Jody Fauley had signed a proclamation to recognition May 11-17, 2025, as National Police Week in San Saba County, and Chief Deputy Daly provided the Court with a copy of it.

Rick and John Baskin were present at the meeting to answer any questions about the information they provided on the insurance bid. After discussion, Rick Baskin agreed to get another bid before the next meeting.

The Court approved the following items: 

• Conservation Contract for Tanner Shanks, 635 CR 224 to blade the road for ambulance use, Precinct 1 - Commissioner Lebow noted this will be of no cost to the county.

• Purchase of a 2019 Cat Motor Grader from Warren Cat for $180,000 for Precinct 1 Commissioner Lebow explained he had been looking for over a year. He is selling some of his equipment to help with the cost. Approval was needed from the court to move ahead on the purchase paperwork. The money will come from the budget.

• New Interlocal between Kerr County and San Saba County for Jail Services - Chief Deputy Daly addressed the court and said San Saba does not use the Kerr County Jail very much, but they are the only ones with medical staff equipped to handle mental-health inmates. He noted they are able to help with others are not. The cost is now $100 per day. This is renewing an existing contract.

The court decided to table the burn ban agenda item until the next meeting in hopes of even more rain.

The Court approved the following Departmental Reports: 

• County/District Clerk - have been very busy cleaning out the district clerk office.

• County Treasurer - printed report given to court.

• County Justice of the Peace - Judge Blossman said the JP vehicle is out of commission, and the cost to repair it is too expensive. There was discussion about extra vehicles in the county for her to use, but there were no extras. She provided the following report to the court: 

Total: $29,717.50 

Community Service/ Jail Credit: $1,002.60 

Total to County: $16,098.39 

Small Claims and Civil: $270.00

• County Sheriff and Jail - Jail Book total was 472 with an average of 15.73 days.

The next Commissioners Court meeting will be held May 27, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse. The public is invited and encouraged to come.
