The Richland Springs Report

Three short weeks, or 13 days, of school left before the 2024-2025 school year is complete. We will be attending school on Monday, May 12th, to make up a severe weather day. The STAAR is finished; now we wait for the results.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I hope most parents take a moment to send a little note in appreciation. Gifts are not needed, although welcomed. It’s the personal touch that acknowledges the loving input a teacher has put into your child. Local churches will be providing lunches and gifts to show their appreciation. This is the tiring period in teaching, both for the students and the teachers. It’s been a long year, and everyone is done.

May is awards and recognition month. First Baptist will honor the Seniors and the graduation eighth grade classes with a special luncheon. The Christian Church will be holding the Baccalaureate ceremony for the Seniors on Sunday the 18th. Members from local churches will join to honor the graduates in song. Seniors will also have the Rotary Club dinner, Masonic Lodge dinner, and the roping fund raiser at the rodeo arena. The last week will be awards for elementary and junior high.

The boys track team will be bringing home their third-place state medals. Congratulations to all students who participated in an award-winning season. This concludes the competitive athletic events for the year. Athletics off-season practice will continue.

The school board elections had an excellent turn out.

Election results have been posted on the bulletin board of the City Hall. Jason Lewis and Nick Taylor will represent our school district.

Thank you to all five candidates for considering our school important enough to run for what is often a thankless job. We’re fortunate enough to have had five excellent candidates willing to invest in our school district. The sales tax proposition passed with a positive majority.

We have many citizens ill. I’d like to mention Jack Carroll. He is home from the hospital and will continue under doctor’s care until he is cured. Johnny Reeves did not receive a positive cancer evaluation, but God is good. He has been offered two special treatments to handle the liver cancer. Our prayers go out to both gentlemen and all who are seriously ill. Please pray for the Bessent family in their loss of Christie. We have lost several community members in the past few weeks.

Please pray for our country, our President, Congress, and the wars around the world. Please keep your student in school.

Teaching is still happening, and absentees will have to attend Monday school. If you have a moment, please pray for rain. We have missed all the healthy rains, and our land is very dry. We don’t need the hail, but three inches of rain would be beneficial. God bless our first responders, police officers, firefighters, and most of all, our precious troops, and their families.
