San Saba ISD Bond Proposal falls short

Voters in San Saba ISD did not approve the bond propositions presented in the May 3, 2025 election. While the outcome was not what the district had hoped for, leaders say they are committed to moving forward and continuing to connect with the community.

“We are disappointed in the results, but we are not discouraged,” said Superintendent Keith Owen. “We’re incredibly grateful to every voter who took time to participate in the election. We will continue to focus on listening to community members and hearing their concerns and suggestions while effectively communicating long-term plans for the District and its facilities.”

The two bond propositions, which were developed over a year-long planning process, focused on addressing aging facilities, expanding educational spaces, and upgrading campus safety and instructional environments.

“We believe this was not a vote against our students or against our schools,” said Board President Kevin Shahan. “It was a message that we need to continue building relationships and connecting with our community. As a Board, we are committed to that work.”

District leadership will begin debriefing with staff, community members, and stakeholders in the coming weeks to better understand voter concerns and determine next steps.

“Our students deserve safe, functional learning environments,” Owen added. “That part hasn’t changed. We’re going to do the work to refocus, engage our community, and move forward together.”
