I want to start with sending Jaspur Farris a giant congratulations for advancing to State in UIL Academic competition. We’re proud to have him representing our school.
The end of this week will see multiple members of the boys track team competing at state as well as Emma Bryant, our lone girl representative. Reagan Eckert will also represent our school at the next level. Although not everyone advanced to state, we are immensely proud of our student athletes who competed in sports as well as academic competitions.
There are long hours of practice needed to advance. Thank you to the teachers who worked with our students. We have missed Mrs. Smith greatly. I know she is proud of our young people.
We had a great crowd at the board meeting Thursday evening. Several of the board candidates met Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Wilson for the first time. Nine citizens addressed the board concerning the future of our academic and athletic goals. Both Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Wilson were able to ease their concerns. Certified teachers will fill open academic positions. The school financial status has been greatly improved, and overall, the school is doing well. There was concern about the school rating. Mr. Kirby addressed the issue saying his goal of A status for the school might take longer, but he would not be satisfied until the school had reached an A rating from TEA. Don’t forget to vote for the two open board positions.
One of the returning certified teachers will be Mrs. Hall. She will be instructing the junior high students. Anyone who has had experience with Mrs. Hall will testify that she is the best English teacher. Our students will be well prepared for the next STAAR. This excellence in teaching will continue with Mrs. Locker and set up our high school English classes for future successes and college. Look to the school page to see other positions as they are filled. Mrs. Wilson is looking for a certified pre-k teacher. There are about ten students enrolled. The pre-k program will benefit Mrs. Perry in the kinder classroom as she prepares them to be readers in first grade.
State track starts on the third in Austin. Regional tennis is on May 7th and 8th. The final STAAR test is Wednesday.
For those of you who have not heard the news, a new outfit has bought the rail line and will be re-opening it for service once repairs have been made. They will begin by clearing right of way and debris from the rails. This is great news for the area.
Please continue to pray for our country as we work our way through the changes brought about by the Trump administration. We need peace and civility to return to our two major parties. Please pray for our teachers and students as we accomplish these last few weeks of school. I’m praying for rain. Everyone told me about the deluge in Brownwood, but it did not make it to Richland Springs.
Have a blessed week, and please pray for our precious soldiers.
