Three Seasons of Success - SSHS Golden Armadillo Band

The Golden Armadillo Band has enjoyed one of their most successful seasons yet, shining brightly across marching season, individual competitions, and concert performances.

The momentum began in the fall, as the marching band stunned audiences and judges alike with their high-energy show, 'Breaking Darkness.' Their hard work, precision, and musicality earned them top ratings at multiple competitions, culminating in a standout performance at the UIL Area Marching Contest, where they secured 8th place and were named as an Area Finalist. 'The students put in countless hours of rehearsal, and it really paid off,' said Mr. Moellendorf, Band Director. 'Their commitment to excellence was inspiring.'

Following the high of marching season, San Saba’s talented musicians dove into individual competition season, taking on region and area level challenges. Several students earned spots in prestigious honor bands and solo and ensemble contests. Highlights included Alex Aguirre, Esperanza Baez, Sophia Cuevas, Marlane Rodriguez, Jesus Garcia, Jorge Licea and Mayce McDowell advancing to the State Solo & Ensemble Contest with a superior rating and Evelyn Davila, Marlane Rodriguez, Jesus Garcia and Jessica Nguyen making the All-Region Band. The individual successes showcased the depth of talent across every section — from woodwinds to brass.

As the year transitioned into spring, the San Saba High School Band continued to impress during concert season. Performing a challenging repertoire, the band achieved a Sweepstakes Award at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. Judges praised the ensemble’s rich tone, technical skill, and expressive interpretation, noting a level of musical maturity beyond their years.

As the year wraps up, the Golden Armadillo Band has much to be proud of — and even more to look forward to. With a strong foundation and a rising wave of talented younger members, San Saba’s band program is poised for even greater heights in the seasons to come. The band wishes to formally invite you to celebrate the band's achievements at their banquet on Thursday, May 8th, at 6:00 p.m. in the San Saba High School Cafeteria. We wish to perform for you one last time this year with a free concert on Tuesday, May 13th, at 6:00 p.m. in Armadillo Arena. Thank you for your continued support of the San Saba Golden Armadillo Band Program.
