Although we are very thankful for the rain, sometimes is comes so fast, complications can arise. That was the case on April 24, 2025, when thunderstorms went through the area.
The work day started out with winds from the southeast at about 9 miles an hour. However, by lunchtime that had all changed. The sky had been cloudy all day. Between 12:40 p.m. and 12:55 p.m., all of a sudden, there was .16" of rain. In the next 15 minutes, another .64" had fallen. Then another 1.40" was added on top of that by 1:25 p.m. According to https://hydromet.lcra.org/, that area received 2.2 inches in about half an hour.
By 2:30 p.m., the wind was from the north, and over 30 miles per hour (wind speeds courtesy of timeanddate.com.)
The rain came so fast, FM 45 had to be closed between 765 and the Mills County line. The San Saba County Sheriff's Office had posted a request on their Facebook page for anyone traveling in that area: Please do not drive around barricades. Turn around, don't drown.
Thankfully, by 3:30 p.m., there was an update from the San Saba County Sheriff's Office: Roadway is now open again.
