San Saba First Grade students recently wrapped up their money units in both Social Studies and Math with an exciting and educational event—Market Day! This hands-on learning experience gave students the opportunity to practice exchanging money in a real-world setting.
Held in the Elementary Cafeteria, Market Day featured student-run booths selling a variety of items for 25 cents each. From handmade bracelets to face painting, the creativity on display was impressive. Students from other grade levels brought their quarters to shop and support the first-grade entrepreneurs.
Each student set up their own booth and, with the help of either a parent or a high school student from Mrs. Walts’math class, sold their items to eager customers. The goal for each student was to earn at least $6 to cover the cost of a field trip to Fair Weather Farms in Brady, scheduled while the 3rd and 4th graders take the STAAR test.
We’re proud to share that every student met their goal—and had a great time doing it! Market Day was not only a memorable learning experience, but also a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and money management skills.
Each class celebrated their top earners:
• Mrs. Dame’s Class: Lacy Johnson, Kailynn Cisneroz, and Catherine Christian
• Mrs. King’s Class: Carter Jacobs, Llano Tindall, and Case Walts
• Mrs. Mejia’s Class: Turner Henslee, Gustavo Montoya, and Vivian Theis The overall top sellers were: Carter Jacobs, Lacy Johnson, and Turner Henslee—congratulations!
Market Day was a huge success, and we’re so proud of our first graders for their hard work, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit!
