The Richland Springs Report

It seems strange to complain about all the severe weather missing our area, but we need multiple inches of rain in this area. Oak pollen is filling the air and covering anything left outdoors, including my new black car. It has this lovely coat of yellow covering every black shiny exposed part. There’s no use cleaning the car. It comes back on as soon as I turn my back. I haven’t had many new cars I my 78 years. I would like this one to stay pretty for a long time.

Another busy week as we prepare for STAAR testing on the 16th. Tuesday and Thursday are district track meets, Wednesday is the revised date for the ACT, and golf has district meets on the 7th and 8th. Softball has two meets this week - one in Medina and one in Menard.

Students should also be preparing for their testing days.

The UILAcademic meet was a test of Mrs. Starr’s organizational skills, and she came through as usual. The last-minute change of venue left everyone scrambling.

Mrs. Wilson managed the data requirement in her office. Mrs. Starr appealed to community churches to provide the food for visiting teachers and judges. Mrs. Locker supported her mother excellently. Thank you to all the teachers who stayed and graded entries. It takes a unified staff to get the job done. Congratulations to everyone who participated. There was only one thing missing. We sorely missed the tremendous support that is given to us by Mrs. Melanie Smith. She is nursing her husband back to health. Her help, freely given, is a godsend to our school. We miss you, Mrs. Smith. I did get to spend some time with another first-rate teacher, Patsy Hall. Mrs. Danford and her group of volunteers did a fantastic job providing lunches for contestants and of course, snacks.

No self-respecting teenager can survive without snacks.

Saturday night was prom night. I’ve seen a few pictures taken on the steps of the Bank Building. RSPS was delighted to give the attendees an attractive venue to take their pre-prom photos. I hope some of them make it into the paper.

I just heard that Jack Carroll is in rehab. He is recovering slowly, and we hope to see him back soon. Another local mom had a car accident and needs our prayers. She is recovering at the Brownwood Hospital. The Sunday night Bible study had a long prayer list with multiple cases of cancer. The Siler family needs our prayers. Kay McKee has a cousin with cancer in her jaw. My sister is starting chemo treatments. Johnny Reeves is going for round two chemo treatments. Please pray that science will find more cures for this terrible disease.

Please pray for rain, for our country, for the DOGE crew, for civility in our government and peace around the world.

Please keep our students in your prayers. Parents, please remember that STAAR snacks are supposed to be healthy. They will be needed for three weeks starting on the 16th. Have a fun week everyone.
